Sometimes I am really amazed at myself. At being able to make things so small. I wish I had more time to create miniatures and learn new techniques.
Besides learning how to make miniatures online, I sometimes go to Mdm Ang (from Singapore) to learn how to make local food. Please go to her for lessons! She really has a deep passion for miniature craft. ^_^
Since my customers are mainly from overseas, I tend to specialise in more westernised food like pastries. However, it is nice to occasionally switch to local food. Let's have some satay then! I assembled this piece on my own and modified the cucumber as I didn't like the original one taught in class. I also kept all the items loose as it is quite fun shifting the onions and rice cake around - different display to suit different mood. Maybe I should try making a miniature chilli crab (add to my to-do list). Yummy!

Miniature Chocolate Fondue
It's time to party!
A miniature chocolate fondue set custom made for one of my customers. The fondue consists of fruit slices (60 slices altogether!), ice cream balls, waffle biscuits and juicy blueberries. There is also a plate of sweet creamy cupcakes and some assorted donuts. This took a few days of work to complete and I'm exhausted now!
I will post something new this coming weekend... stay tuned...

Miniature Xmas Gingerbread Man
Christmas is nearing and I am soooo excited!!!
There are many reasons to be happy about 2008. As I slowed down my pace of life this month, I realised that simple things can make me very happy. Here are my top 10 (not in any particular order):
1) Having a leisure breakfast outside
2) Drinking a cup of iced milo from McDonalds
3) Walking in a mall and listening to Xmas carols
4) Meeting up with old friends
5) Collecting nice miniatures
6) Making nice miniatures
7) Reaching new level of "Scratch & Win" in Facebook
8) Enjoying iced earl grey with vanilla ice cream at Coffee Club
9) Watching a nice drama on TV
10) Spaghetti Vongole!
Oh yes, just to illustrate item 5, I collected some miniature gingerbread man to celebrate Xmas! I don't mind selling you a few pieces just to share the festive joy! For sale in Singapore only. Email: ilovelittlethings@gmail.com.

Miniature Sushi
It is my favourite month and I just love Christmas. Everyone is busy making miniature Xmas cakes and goodies but I guess I don't have time for that! I've been kept busy filling in custom orders and there are more to come!
Recently I found a shop selling miniature food handphone straps. I find them very plastic and some are just too huge. They need to drop by here! Nonetheless, this could be a good sign that miniature food is getting more popular in Singapore.
Ok... to start off the December month, here are some miniature sushi sets. Selling fast!

Miniature Biscuits in Tinbox
Remember the good old days when biscuits are stored in tin boxes at provision shop? Looking at these in miniature form bring back sweet childhood memories.
This is my personal collection for your viewing pleasure. I hope to add more designs in future. There are strawberry loveletters, chocolate chip cookies, alphabet crackers etc etc....
Want to purchase? Drop me an email at ilovelittlethings@gmail.com but do take note that you may have to wait a little while for the stock.
And just to sidetrack, there is another collection that I would like to expand- miniature canned drinks! These were from the 7-11 convenience chain series (Singapore version) but no longer available. If you really wish to own some, let me know. :) Bedtime now...

Miniature Steamboat
I made a miniature steamboat today. If you are interested to learn, please email me for the contact info. However, this is not for beginners!
This steamboat set takes more time and patience than anything else I'm selling on my blog. I am ABSOLUTELY happy with the way it turned out. I think it looks very nice! The overall presentation looks something like this. I will introduce the ingredients shortly.
Let's start with my favourite golden mushrooms and going clockwise on the outer edge, we have vegetables, japanese fish cake, oysters, some meat slices, lettuce, chinese mushrooms and corn. In the centre, we have some carrot slices, crabsticks (I love making this!), fishball and button mushrooms. Yummy!
Can you see the cooked prawns? The green thing on the left is broccoli and there are two slices of cuttlefish beside it.
As it takes so much effort to make this set, I'm going to keep it for my personal collection! =)

Miniature Donuts (very mini version)
My fruit tarts are all sold out... looks like I need to make more!
Before I do that, I got to rush a custom order for one of my customers - DONUTS! I tried to get some inspiration from Donut Factory, J Co Donuts and Missy Donut. Nowadays there are donuts with no holes - the entire donut is covered with chocolate or funny flavours. I think they don't look nice in miniature form, so I kept to more conventional designs.
I made this in 1:12 scale. Each donut is slightly less than 1 cm across. Very tiny! So there you are, a tray of miniature donuts and a bottle of coke!
For order/enquiry, email ilovelittlethings@gmail.com.

Miniature Fruit Tarts
I am super happy today after completing this set of fruit tarts. There is really a lot of work involved in making these miniatures. I had to do the tart shell first and let it dry for a few days before I could start work on the fruits and cream.
I love the strawberry and kiwi slices. And I finally figured out how to make blueberries - somehow it was difficult to get the right shade of purple.
I am also very happy today to meet someone who is just as crazy about food miniatures as me (I hope she doesn't mind that I used the term crazy ^_^) Finally, someone who can talk to me about the scale for miniatures (as in 1:12 or 1:24).
If you would like to order a set of fruit tarts, drop me an email ilovelittlethings@gmail.com

Miniature Tarts
Making food miniatures can be quite addictive! ;) Let's try some rose tarts this time since my fruit canes are not ready yet. I wanted to give this a sweet and luxurious feel.
I love making the white cream. Some miniaturists have tools that are able to squeeze out cream like the real thing but such tools are very rare and expensive in Singapore, so I made do with an eyebrow tweezer (!).
The ones with tiny beads went quite smoothly, but I must have overestimated myself in making the roses. Making a miniature rose is really VERY VERY hard! It is even harder using air dry clay since the clay dries up quickly upon contact with air. I managed to do 6 decent-looking roses after repeated attempts.
I'm happy with the finished product and am waiting for it to dry before putting it up on my Etsy shop (www.ilovelittlethings.etsy.com) or Ebay. I welcome pre-order/custom order - please email ilovelittlethings@gmail.com.

Miniature Donuts
It is hard to find food miniatures in Singapore, other than the Japanese Re-ment or Megahouse collections. I collect Re-ment items too, especially their cake series but I find that their miniatures are getting bigger and bigger! Maybe I should showcase some of my secret items from Re-ment later. :)
Now that I have some time, I decided to make more miniatures myself. Making miniatures can be very time consuming and requires a lot of patience. Most importantly, it can be very expensive! Imagine this: to make one small strawberry, you need to buy one pack of clay, a big tube of red and green paint each, some lacquer... the list can grow! After careful planning, I decided to get some pastel colours for my donut project.
I also made some coloured sprinkles and "sugar" to coat the donuts. There you go - a plate of sweet donuts, made from air dry clay! How do you like them?
You may purchase from my Etsy shop www.ilovelittlethings.etsy.com or just drop me an email at ilovelittlethings@gmail.com. If you like other flavours like chocolate donuts, I take custom order too! It will take about 1-2 weeks, depending on the quantity of donuts.

Each is priced at US$3 (SGD4.20). I accept Paypal for overseas order. You may also purchase from www.ilovelittlethings.etsy.com - just drop me an email (ilovelittlethings@gmail.com) to list the ice creams you want if it is not there. For purchase in Singapore, local pick-up of item is available to save you on postage costs.
Custom order welcome, for example I can help you set up an ice cream display shelf/cabinet or decorate on the base of a photoframe. Good gift for the coming yuletide season!
